The continuous shooting mode on my Canon Rebel XSi?

I've tried every setting possible, but every time I use my continuous shooting mode, it only works for the first 15 or so shots then it shoots like every second. Am I doing something wrong or is that just how it works. I see it saying busy in my viewfinder. I greatly appreciate any answers. I'm shooting a stop animation project for school.
