ShutterSpeed help for a canon rebel xsi?

I am doing a photoshoot with a friend of mine and he is in dance. he wants me to take some action shots of him jumping in the air doing the splits. if i set my shutter speed to 800 will it capture the picture? or will it need to be higher? Please help. THanks a bunch <3
